Felicity Kendal’s parents had a touring company in India called Shakespearana, immortalized in the film Shakespeare Wallah. I blogged on her BBC documentary Felicity Kendal’s Indian Shakespeare Quest during the World Shakespeare Festival, in which she noted that ‘My father believed that Shakespeare and India were a natural fit, but for some Indian artists the relationship is a bit more complicated.’ Dr Poonan Trivedi, one of the leading critics on post-colonial Shakespeares and Shakespeare on the subcontinent, helped her unpack that complexity.
